Community and Family Mediator Coordinator – Employment Opportunity

COMMUNITY AND FAMILY MEDIATOR (One-year term position with a potential extension to March 31, 2024)

Fisher River Cree Nation is presently seeking a Community and Family Mediator Coordinator to work under the direction of the Ochekwiwanasowewin Restorative Justice program.  The Coordinator will mediate/dispute resolution services for FRCN clients in the community through community and self-referrals for civil and family mediation; to support intervention/prevention efforts for youth and families, family partners, elders, and general community members.

Responsibilities:

• Provide Complete Client Assessments, initial and ongoing client assessments/interviews, project services information, and intake forms. (Include info on partner referrals, daily/weekly contacts, etc.)
• Provide Client Sessions, schedule daily and weekly sessions surrounding mediation issues pertaining to, mental health, domestic issues/violence, bullying, communication, relationships, LGBTQ+ dilemmas, destructive behavior patterns, problem solving, etc.
• Provide Family Conference Sessions, sessions held with families (Between youth and parents/siblings, partners, LGBTQ+clients and parents/family, elders and family). Includes healing circles.
• Provide quarterly Workshops;
• Connect with project partners monthly to review client plan and client progress/needs/followup, new referrals, and to collaborate events/activities and to provide monthly updates and any new information;
• Complete client data reports; monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
• Client Follow-up: Co-construct individual and family follow-up plans with clients to monitor and ensure client’s on-going progress.
• Other duties assigned.

Qualifications

• Education in Native Studies, Conflict Resolution Studies or Social Worker or relevant combination or experience in Justice Field.
• Must be willing to take training
• Knowledge of Aboriginal restorative justice and related issues
• Must possess strong analytical, decision – making and planning skills
• Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and internet programs and office equipment
• Superior organizational, financial and time management skills
• Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and traditions
• Must possess a valid Manitoba Driver’s License with access to reliable vehicle
• Must adhere to FRCN Policies & Procedures, including the Illegal Drug By-law, Vaccination Policy etc;
• Must provide with Resume, Criminal Record Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.
