Job Summary:
The Land Base Support Workers are responsible for providing support and teaching in delivery of the Land Base Program. The workers will help promote cultural awareness and work with existing staff to plan and deliver Land Base Activities for children and families. Activities include:
- Assist in the facilitation of events delivering cultural and traditional knowledge for the community (traditional medicine education, traditional dancing / singing / drumming / community and /or seasonal celebrations / feasts, traditional arts & crafts);
- Assist in the delivery and planning of land base activities (hunting, fishing, trapping, etc)
- Foster connections to cultural and ways of being, both within the Fisher River Jordan’s Principle and with the community from a perspective that promotes healing;
- Participate in relevant training and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on youth engagement and community outreach;
- Knowledge and experience working with children, youth and families in a healing and reconciliation capacity;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
- Capable to work independent and in a group setting which may include local entities and other programs;
- Communicate in a professional and respectful manner at all times;
- Experience working in an office setting and having experience completing reports, work plans, etc would be an asset;
- Mino-pimatisiwin – living the good life, drug and alcohol-free;
- Able to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate program scheduling.
