Accountability:

The Support to Young Adults Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

General Responsibilities:

The Support to Young Adults Coordinator will offer support to young adults up to the age of 26 years old that have left care but require further post majority services so individual can become independent and responsible on their own. The Support to Young Adults Coordinator will provide direct services in areas to help prepare the young adult to become socially and financially independent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact former children in care who meet the post-majority criteria to enroll in voluntary services of the Post Majority Support Services
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs and support required
  • Develop and support comprehensive case plans with and for the young adult’s immediate, short- and long-term goals
  • Connect the young adults with access to financial support; education and training development opportunities; safe housing, physical, mental, and social well-being supports; and connection with land, culture, language, family, and community
  • Support the young adults to be fully independent by identifying their own interests to support their well-being for their life-long success
  • Support young adults in (re)connecting meaningfully with their families, culture, and communities, and accessing supports that promote reunification or repatriation
  • Support the young adults during their transition to independence, their self-identified best interests and goals with their physical, emotional, cultural, and mental well-being as paramount considerations
  • Provide supports to family and extended family, to nurture positive relationships with the young adult

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Demonstrated understanding/appreciation of Fisher River Cree Nation cultural beliefs, values, and norms
  • Proficiency with MS Office i.e., word, excel, outlook, and CFSIS and IM
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (ability to speak Cree is an asset)
  • A valid driver’s license; a reliable vehicle with insurance coverage
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record, Prior Contact; and Child Abuse Registry Checks

Salary Range:

  • Dependent on Education and Experience
