Financial Controller & Internal Auditor – Administration (1 year Term Position)

Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) is presently seeking a Financial Controller & Internal Auditor (Administration) for a (1) year Term Position to work under the direction and to report to the Director of Operations and the Director of Finance.  The Financial Controller & Internal Auditor (Administration) will be responsible for day-to-day financial management and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and Analyze accounting data to produce and present accurate and timely financial reports,
  • Work with CFO and Directors to Create, develop and maintain accounting and budgeting spreadsheets using Excel,
  • Assist with monthly & quarterly budget monitoring, variance analysis and updates for presentation,
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly financial statements and assist with year-end audit preparation,
  • Work with CFO, Director of Operations and Leadership in the development of a long term strategic plan,
  • Design and engage in internal audit testing and evaluation of processes and procedures,
  • Assist with modifying existing procedures or initiating new processes procedures in accounting/business systems,
  • Analyze financial information in response to queries from Management, Chief and Council, suppliers, vendors, funders etc.
  • Identify and resolve errors and discrepancies and work with and train financial administrators,
  • Monitor tracking of revenues & expenses as it relates to budgets under various funding agreements,
  • Assist with reviewing funding and business contracts in a timely manner,
  • Respond to requests for proposals from funders,
  • Perform financial analysis across all entities and provide recommendations to improve profitability,
  • Must adhere to FRCN Policies & Procedures, including the Illegal Drug By-law, etc;
  • Perform other duties assigned as required.

Education, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with Finance/Accounting Major desired,
  • A minimum of 10 years of financial management experience,
  • Professional Accounting designation in good standing desired,
  • Experience in a computerized accounting environment with various accounting packages such as Sage AccPac & Simply and QuickBooks.
  • Requires excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of content;
  • Must be both efficient and thorough, in order to prioritize work to meet timelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as the nature of the workflow demands a team approach;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, as well as with minimal supervision;
  • Requires a high level of bookkeeping/accounting and solid analytical skills;
  • Requires high level of competence in basic Excel, Word and Outlook and other Accounting programs
  • Must be able to plan and organize assignments and functions effectively;
  • Must be willing to commute to Fisher River Cree Nation Directors, Management, and Leadership;
