Applications are being accepted from interested Members for one (1) Community Trustee position to serve on the Fisher River Cree Nation Community Trust’s Board of Trustees. You must be a Member of FRCN that lives on-reserve . The successful candidate will serve a 4-year term and join the existing Board of Trustees made up of the 3 Community Trustees and 1 Corporate Trustee. FNB Trust serves as the Corporate Trustee that provides administrative support and reporting to the Community Trustees to make informed decisions in compliance with the Trust Agreement.

What is the role of a Community Trustee?
- Carry out the terms of the Community Trust Agreement;
- Working together with the Board of Trustees on the management of the Trust;
- Engaging, monitoring and liaising with professional advisors that includes: Investment Consultant, Investment Managers, Auditors, and Legal Advisors;
- Reviewing and approving Authorized Expenses to an approved budget of the Trust;
- Reviewing quarterly and annual financial statements, budget reports and investment reports;
- Participating in quarterly Trustee meetings, investment meetings, annual general meeting with the community and Chief & Council;
- Reporting to Chief and Council and Members on Trust activities ;
- Must adhere to code of ethics and code of conduct, and confidentiality when handling private information of the Trust; and
- Representing the Trust to the best of their ability and acting in the best interests and priorities of the Trust.
Who can be a Community Trustee?
- Must reside on-reserve, in the community of Fisher River Cree Nation;
- Be a Member of Fisher River Cree Nation over the age of 18 years;
- Have a Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent;
- Not have record of bankruptcy;
- Not be convicted of violent crimes, theft, fraud, or similar offenses (Criminal report check); and
- Must not be a member of Council.
What are other helpful skillsets to be a Community Trustee?
- Grassroots understanding of the community, historical background and culture;
- Basic to moderate knowledge of finance, investments, and accounting concepts;
- Understanding of how to budget and read financial statements;
- Good written and verbal communication skills ;
- Ability to comply with deadlines;
- Availability and commitment to attend meetings and Trust activities;
- Awareness of conflicts of interests and how to mitigate conflicts of interests;
- Working well in a team environment with cross-functional skill sets;
- Ability to make good, sound decisions in the best interest of the FRCN; and
- Fiduciary duty and duty of care concepts.
Term: 4-year term upon signing a Trustee Engagement Agreement
Time Commitment & Availability: Trustees are required to attend 6 meetings per year (4 quarterly Trustee meetings, Trust Annual General Meeting, and joint Council meeting). Meetings usually last 3-4 hours that are scheduled Monday to Friday during the day and can be held virtually (Zoom or Teams) or on-reserve in-person.
Compensation: The Community Trustee will receive honorarium and reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses.
Training: Orientation and training sessions will be held with the Corporate Trustee, or as Council requires, to assist in understanding and fulfillment of the trustees’ duties and responsibilities relative the Trust Agreement.
