Intertribal Child & Family Services Timeline

With the many changes ongoing I believe that it is important to reflect on the history of ICFS.  Intertribal Child and Family Services (ICFS) has been part of a decentralization process over the course of a number of years.  ICFS was initially part of Anishinaabe Child and Family Services, which comprised of 9 communities. 

• 1987 – The first phase of decentralization occurred in 1987 when Anishinaabe established 2 units Anishinaabe West and Anishinaabe East, which consisted of Peguis, Fisher River, Dakota Tipi, and Kinonjeoshtegon. 
• 1995 – Peguis received its own mandate. 
• 2001 – Anishinaabe East received its mandate and legally became Intertribal Child and Family Services.
• November 2003 – Intertribal Child & Family Services, as it is known today, received its province-wide mandate from the Province of Manitoba to serve members of FRCN, Dakota Tipi and Kinonjeoshtegon.
• July 6, 2004 – Initial request July 6, 2004 by FRCN to obtain its’ own mandate to then-CEO of the Southern Authority. 
• June 8, 2015 – ICFS& Dakota Tipi Sign Service Delivery Agreement for DOCFS to provide service to Dakota Tipi First Nation.
• June 16, 2017 – Second request to SFNNC for consideration for FRCN to have its own mandate.
• September 15, 2021 – ICFS Mandate Variation granted for ICFS to solely serve FRCN members.
