Update from the Board of Education – April 2, 2020

Tansi,

This is an update for all community members, parents and students. On March 31, 2020, the Minister of Education for the Province of Manitoba announced that schools will remain closed indefinitely.  This could last until the end of the school year.  This decision was made on the recommendation of the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer.  Should circumstances change from now until the end of the school year, school will resume once the Health Officer deems it safe to do so.

The education of our children is very important and though the schools will remain closed, learning must continue. We will be purchasing learning materials and resources that will be delivered to the home to support continued learning.  This will look different for specific groups of students.

Nursery to grade 8 students will receive workbooks and/or packages.  These will be provided to the children for continued learning.

Grade 9-12 students will be working on possible online strategies for continuing as much course work as possible.  If students have connectivity issues we will figure out alternatives for them.

All grade 12 students that were on track to graduate will receive their diploma. Final marks will be based on their mark from when they last attended.  They will be able to improve their marks by completing the additional work provided.  The grade 12 Provincial exams have been cancelled.

I know it is a very trying time for everyone, but I know that as long as we work together patiently we will be able to get through this period.  It is not going to be easy and it may take time to get the work to the children.

I would like to thank all of the parents for their understanding. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the education office by phone, 204-645-2283.
