Update to Fishers regarding issuance of Commercial Net Fishing Licenses for 2020-2021

Department of Agriculture and Resource Development is changing our approach for the issuance of Commercial Net Fishing Licenses for 2020-2021 in light of social distancing requirements and the closure of regional and district offices to walk-in traffic.

The safety of fishers, their families, the public and government staff is our top priority. For 2020-21, the Department will not require fishers to visit a regional office to pick up their license. The 2020-2021 Lake Winnipeg Commercial Net Fishing Licenses will be sent via mail to each commercial fisher.

The licenses will be mailed out this week to the addresses that we have on file. Included in the package is a letter of instruction, two sets of licenses and appendices, a commercial fishing guide and a prepaid return envelope.

Fishers may choose to defer the payment of the license fee until November 1st. The Department will send out a reminder to fishers who choose to defer the payment in October.

I will conduct spawn testing as we always have and we will update the spawn line daily, once we begin.

We will work with fishers to get them the Trade Records and Loadslips they require. It is recommended that you call the District of Regional Office prior to needing the any of these records and they will make arrangements to mail out or pick up.
