Personal Care Home Bulletin – Outside/Indoor Visits

  1. On-site Outdoor Visits
  • A maximum of two designated visitors per resident will be permitted to visit at a time/in a day.
  • Minors (under 14) must be accompanied by an adult. Sites may restrict overall number of visitors at one time. Based on evaluation of risk and clinical judgement, the site may be unable to facilitate outdoor visits for certain patients.
  • The site reserves the right to cancel visits due to inclement weather.
  • No off-property visits are permitted given the risk to residents and to the facility associated with unknown nature of contacts, exposure and other required safety measures.
  • Wearing of non-medical (cloth) masks during outdoor visits is not required but is encouraged.
  1. Indoor Visits – For permitted indoor visits:
  • It is recommended a designated indoor room(s) for visitation should be identified close to entrance and visitation in patient room should only be in exceptional circumstances o Visitors should be escorted by staff to – and from – the designated area, the escort should minimize the visitor’s need to touch surfaces on route to the visiting space, e.g., the escort should open the doors, press the elevator buttons, etc.
  • Sign in and out of all visits.
  • Remain in the designated area for the duration of the visit – visitation with other residents is not permitted.
  • Be informed that they are required to wear a mask or face covering and they should bring their own. Use of non-medical masks is encouraged. In exceptional circumstances, a mask may be provided by the facility.
  • Perform hand hygiene when entering/leaving the building. o Adhere to public health advice regarding close contact (maintain a distance of 6 feet/2 metres), respiratory hygiene and other IPC and public health measures while visiting.
  • Visitor(s) approved for Orange or Red Zone residents/units will be provided with appropriate PPE, in line with the Provincial Personal Protective Equipment Requirements
