Leadership condemns acts of vandalism at the United Church

On Monday July 5, 2021, it was discovered that the sign at the United Church was vandalized; while leadership recognizes that emotions are high after the continuing discoveries of unmarked graves at numerous residential schools in the country, these types of actions are not the right steps toward reconciliation.

The right step forward towards reconciliation are continued discussions and calls to action with the direct parties involved, the catholic church and the government of Canada. Leadership will continue to push the various levels of government and we will continue to stand with children lost and the survivors of residential schools in a respectful manner and proactive ways.

Our community is taught to be respectful in all walks of life, a value which was taught from the birth of our nation and today’s leadership will not tolerate any hatred or acts of vandalism in the community.

Anyone with any knowledge of the vandalism at the United Church is encouraged to contact the Fisher River Safety Office, 204.308.0553 or the Fisher Branch RCMP, 204.372.8484.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,

Fisher River Cree Nation Chief & Council
