Chief David Crate, Councillors Darrell Thaddeus, Hillary Murdock and Cory Murdock would like to sincerely thank Councillor Carl “Poggy” Cochrane for his 20+ years of service to the community of Fisher River Cree Nation as a member of Council. Poggy’s contributions to the betterment of Fisher River Cree Nation can be felt and seen thoughout the entire community. Carl however, always had a special place in his heart of gold for Sports and Recreation events and activities in the community; whether it being participating, cutting the grass, making visitors feel welcome, prepping the ball diamonds, helping at our annual Pow Wow and the list can go on and on. First elected in 2001, Poggy’s commitment to Fisher River Cree Nation is something that absolutely does not go unnoticed, and we are happy to be able to share this with him today.

The leadership heard the people, and the decision was a simple one to make, the Chief & Council of Fisher River Cree Nation are honored to announce that the Fisher River Cree Nation Recreation Grounds will be renamed to honour Councillor Carl Cochrane. The leadership have met with Carl and his family to deliver the news and Carl has sent his blessings to move forward with the renaming of the Recreation Grounds. The official name will be announced at a later time.

The Chief & Council would thank Jeannie and family for sharing Carl with us all these years. We would also like to thank all the messages coming in from far and wide; it is simply amazing to know how many hearts Carl has reached and while we are not surprised; it gives much strength to Carl, the family and the community.

We ask that you keep Carl and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
