Protect your home as best as you can by doing the following:

  • Direct the flow away from your home by ensuring the downspouts are down
  • Keep an eye on the basement and crawlspace every day for signs of water
  • Make sure the sump pump is working properly, as the float gets stuck at times – please keep in mind that the rain and saturation of ground contributes to it running more than usual
  • Ensure the sump pump is not plugged up with debris at intakes and that the sump pump hose is not blocked and directing water away from your home
  • If applicable, clear drainage ditches and culverts
  • Don’t place valuable items on the basement floor as the housing department/committee is not responsible for personal belongings
