We are proud to congratulate Fisher River Cree Nation member Jorja Johnson on being selected for the Community Volunteerism Junior Award at the 2025 Manitoba Indigenous Youth Achievement Awards!

Jorja, whose spirit name is Running Red Fox Girl, is a remarkable 17-year-old Grade 12 French Immersion student at Oak Park High School. In 2024, she was honored to serve on the Manitoba Student Advisory Council, working alongside the Minister of Education to bring cultural perspectives to Manitoba’s education system.

Over the past two years, Jorja has volunteered with numerous organizations as part of the Philanthropy Committee. She stays connected to her home community, returning to participate in important events like the 150th Anniversary Celebration, the Ada Wilson “Grey Cloud Woman” Pow Wow and the walk for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Recently, she received her colors and spirit name, Running Red Fox Girl, and was gifted her very first ribbon skirt by an elder from the community.

Jorja’s commitment to her community is inspiring—she has even presented artwork by her late father to Chief Davide Crate to be donated to local schools, encouraging students to find inspiration and complete the pieces.

Looking ahead, Jorja plans to attend the University of Manitoba in fall 2026 to study psychology and Indigenous studies. Her goal is to return home as a registered psychologist to provide accessible support within her community.

Congratulations, Jorja, on this well-deserved recognition. Your dedication and spirit continue to inspire us all!
