Flood Preparation Crews 1 & 2
Flood Preparation Crews 1 & 2. Crews begin April 9 at 8:00am and are to meet at William (Marilyn) Murdock yard at the Sandpit. Shift is from 8:00am - 8:0 pm. Bring a bag lunch/snacks for tomorrow.
Following recent discussions with the province, combined with the latest weather events and long-range forecasts, we regret to inform you that we are anticipating flooding potentially exceeding the levels experienced in 2022.
The Fisher River Cree Nation Chief and Council have met with community Directors and Managers to confirm that all safety and emergency plans are ready to be implemented. Special attention has been given to protecting our most vulnerable residents.
Fish Road is being actively maintained to remain accessible, as highway 224 is expected to experience road closures. Preventive measures are already underway: the province has started clearing ditches along highway 224, and snow clearing has commenced around the homes most severely impacted in 2022. We ask for your patience and understanding during this process; crews are working diligently and will reach your homes as promptly as possible.
Sandbagging teams will begin operations within the next few days, accompanied by deliveries of Tiger Dams.
We strongly urge all community members to take clear “before” photographs of their basements, crawlspaces, and the snow surrounding their homes. These photos will be essential in expediting insurance claims should flooding occur.
Please stay informed by regularly monitoring our website and Facebook page for updates. Your cooperation and vigilance are vital as we navigate this challenging situation together.
