Fisher River Cree Nation Announces New Jordan’s Principle Complex
Fisher River Cree Nation, Manitoba – Chief and Council are proud and excited to
announce the construction of the designed build of a Fisher River Jordan’s Principle Complex, a landmark investment that will enhance services, support, and opportunities for children and families in the community.
The new $7.7 million facility, designed and constructed by Seko Construction, represents a significant step forward in ensuring Fisher River children receive the services they need in a welcoming, accessible, and culturally supportive environment.
Jordan’s Principle was established to ensure that First Nations children can access the products, services, and supports they need when they need them, without delays caused by jurisdictional disputes. The principle reflects the commitment to placing the needs of children first and ensuring equitable access to essential services.
The facility will serve as a centralized hub for children, youth, and families, providing access to all Jordan’s Principle services, including:
• Dedicated Sensory Space
• Medical Assessment Rooms
• Programming Space
• Cultural Space
• Medical Respite Space
• Child Development Space
The space has been specifically designed to meet children’s needs.
The building will be constructed adjacent to Charles Sinclair School, ensuring convenient access for children and families and strengthening collaboration between educational and support services.
Recognizing the diverse needs of community members, the facility will not operate as a traditional 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. office. Instead, it will offer evening programming and services to better accommodate children, youth, and families throughout the community.
Chief and Council extend their sincere gratitude to Mandy Gull-Masty, Minister of Indigenous Services Canada, and Rod Graham, Regional Director General for Manitoba, for their support and commitment to this important project. This investment will help ensure that Fisher River children and families continue to receive the supports they need to thrive.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
Community members and media are invited to attend the official Sod Turning Ceremony on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 12:00pm beside the kindergarten building at Charles Sinclair School. The event will mark the beginning of a project that will serve generations of Fisher River children and families for years to come.
