Please join us in wishing a very happy and well-deserved retirement to Sam Murdock, Director of Operations for Fisher River Cree Nation.

Sam has served as Director of Operations since November 2009, playing an essential role in our Nation’s day-to-day operations and helping guide our community through tremendous growth and change. Long before stepping into this role, Sam was already dedicated to serving Fisher River. He first served on Council as a Councillor from 1987–1989, and again from 1991–1997. He then went on to serve as Chief from 2001–2003. Altogether, Sam has devoted decades of his life to leadership, governance, and community service.

Throughout the years, Sam has been instrumental in leading many important projects for Fisher River Cree Nation. Most recently, he played a key role in securing the Manitoba First Nations Police Service for our community and in the opening of our urban office in Winnipeg—both major milestones that will benefit our members for years to come.

Sam has also represented Fisher River on many boards over the years, building strong working relationships and partnerships that will continue to support our Nation in a positive way moving forward. His knowledge, leadership, and commitment to our people have left a lasting impact on every area he has touched.

We are also very proud to recognize that not many communities can say they have had three Chiefs—former and present—working together in support of their Nation. Sam’s leadership and his ability to collaborate and build unity at the leadership level have been a true strength for Fisher River Cree Nation.

On behalf of Fisher River Cree Nation, we extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Sam for his many years of service, dedication, and leadership. We wish him all the best in his retirement and hope this next chapter is filled with good health, happiness, and time with family and friends.

Thank you, Sam, for everything you have done for Fisher River Cree Nation. You will always be a valued part of our community’s story.
