Associate Childrens Advocate
(Full-Time Position @ Cree Crescent, WPG)
Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) is presently seeking a full-time Associate Children’s Advocate to work under the direction of the Children’s Advocate Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of assistance functions by providing the following key activities:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advocacy support to address gaps and enhance services for children and families.
- Stay well-informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in related to services to children and families.
- Act as the primary point of contact for children and families seeking advocacy support.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and interviews with children and their families to identify their needs
- Participate in circle of care planning meetings with community-based service providers.
- Research and Training to ensure transparency and trauma informed targeted approaches.
- Use a range of approaches and media to support training focused on building capacity agency among community-based service providers.
- Maintain accurate records on trends and gaps in services to families.
- Support the implementation of coordinated and comprehensive strategic plan.
- Implement a comprehensive training strategy to build community capacity to engage in trauma.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings, conferences, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills in children’s advocacy.

- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all advocacy activities, including case notes, reports, and correspondence.
- Maintain statistics, client records and monitor service trends.
- Support the preparation of reports for a variety of audiences which analyze and provide recommendations related to trends and gaps in programs and services for children and families.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related education and experience.
- Experience working with children and families and providing advocacy support.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies such as child welfare and child protection laws and best practices in children’s advocacy
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, as well as problem-solving abilities.
- Empathy and understanding towards children and families facing challenges.
- Interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills.
- Leadership and advocacy skills.
- Strong organizational, priority and time management skills.
- Proficiency in a variety of software applications and communication technology platforms.

- Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) members are given preference if they meet the qualifications.
Working Conditions
The Associate Children’s Advocate will primarily work out of the Cree Crescent Office in Winnipeg but may be required to travel outside of the city and surrounding areas. They will need to have flexibility to accommodate a varied work schedule based on the needs of children and families. The work environment can be demanding, requiring emotional resilience and the ability to cope with challenging situations.
