Members of Fisher River Cree Nation went to the polls August 23, 2021 to elect a new Council for the next 2 years. The Nomination Meeting held resulted in 2 candidates for the position of Chief and 17 candidates for the 4 available positions of Councillors.
In the midst of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we had over 850 voters come to the polls, attend the off-reserve polling station and mail-in ballots.
The result being David Crate re-elected to his 10th straight term and his 13th total as Chief of Fisher River Cree Nation. Darrell Thaddeus and Carl Cochrane were both re-elected, making this Darrell’s 7th straight term and Carl’s 8th straight and 10th total term as Councillors.
Fisher River Cree Nation welcomes newly elected Councillors Hillary Murdock and Cory Murdock, this will mark both Hillary’s and Cory’s first term as Councillors. Hillary also becomes the 4th woman elected on to Council in the community’s history.
The community would like to wish out-going Councillors Vince Crate and Josh Sinclair the best in their next chapter and we thank them for their dedication and work during the past 2 years.
