Notice is hereby given that a meeting of the electors of the Fisher River Cree Nation will be held at the Fisher River Cree Nation Community Hall on Thursday the 12th day of May, 2022, beginning at 6:00 o’clock p.m. and lasting for at least three hours, for the purpose of nominating a candidate for the position of ( 1) One Councillor on the Band Council of the said Band, for the next ensuing term. There is 1 councillor position available. The By-Election will be held at the Fisher River Cree Nation Community Hall on Thursday, the 23rd day of June, 2022.
Please note that any voter may nominate candidates by using a mail-in nomination form. You can either deliver or mail-in a written nomination and a completed, signed and witnessed voter declaration form to the Electoral Officer before the time set for the nomination meeting OR you may nominate candidates orally at the nomination meeting. Mailed nominations not received by the Electoral Officer before the time set for nomination meeting are void. Also note that any voter may vote by mail-in ballot.

INDIAN ACT REGULATIONS:
Tenure of office – 78 (1) Subject to this section, the chief and councillors of a band hold office for two years.
Vacancy – The office of chief or councillor of a band becomes vacant when
- (a) the person who holds that office
- (i) is convicted of an indictable offence,
- (ii) passes away or resigns his office, or
- (iii) is or becomes ineligible to hold office by virtue of this Act; or
- (b) the Minister declares that in his opinion the person who holds that office
- (i) is unfit to continue in office by reason of his having been convicted of an offence,
- (ii) has been absent from three consecutive meetings of the council without being authorized to do so, or
- (iii) was guilty, in connection with an election, of corrupt practice, accepting a bribe, dishonesty or malfeasance.
Special election – (4) Where the office of chief or councillor of a band becomes vacant more than three months before the date when another election would ordinarily be held, a special election may be held in accordance with this Act to fill the vacancy.
