Fisher River Cree Nation Chief & Council issued a state of emergency on April 29, 2022, regarding the high risk of flooding of the Fisher River due to the recent weather events and remains in effect until further notice.
CURRENT SITUATION:
Today many of our evacuees were brought home due to the receding flood waters on the main highway. There are a few evacuees in Winnipeg and Selkirk remaining, leadership along with the Emergency Management team and Health Services will coordinate to bring our remaining members home soon.
Despite the recent rain weather we received the other day, water levels continue to drop. Manitoba Water Stewardship has report about a foot drop at Jackhead Bridge, Murdock Bridge and “Koostatak” Bridge. Emergency crews will continue to monitor homes surrounded by flood waters.
The section of Highway 224 near Alison Murdock’s has reopened. With the receding flood waters, the main highway is now drivable for all types of vehicles through Fisher River and Peguis First Nation. Highway 224, Peguis Track bend, will be closing today from 8:00pm – 8:00am for emergency road repairs. Road access is available on East Reservation Road, from Fern Sinclair’s to Midway is passable and recommended for travel. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through Peguis Track for emergency purposes during repairs.
Manitoba Highways have temporarily fixed the sink hole by Maria & Chas Amos’. We ask that drivers respect the speed limit of 30km when driving by, a blockade is set up where the sink hole was.
Fisher River Health Services will begin Medical Transportation to Percy E. Moore Hospital tomorrow. Community Members who have appointments outside of Percy E. Moore Hospital are to contact Fisher River Health Services for more information – 204.645.2689
Fisher River Grocery continue to work with vendors to ensure the delivery of goods.
The road by Doug Murdock’s remains closed to traffic as conditions are deteriorating and large potholes are developing.
Due to flood waters, phone lines maybe affected. Specifically, the Emergency Ambulance/Fire Number of 204.645.2000. If you are cut off when you are calling in an Emergency, please call back right away.
Security will remain on-going and the paramedics continue to be stationed in the community.

The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for homes where wells and water tanks are in flooded areas as a precaution. Individuals are still able to wash dishes, do laundry, shower and washing of hands. Digesting without boiling the water is not recommended.
Support from Indigenous Services Canada continue, and we remain in hourly contact with officials from Peguis First Nation, Manitoba Water Stewardship and Manitoba Highways.
