Chief and Council are asking members of Fisher River Cree Nation (“FRCN”) to participate in an important upcoming event that will shape the future of our community—the Ratification Vote on the proposed Fisher River Cree Nation Matrimonial Real Property Law (the “FRCN MRP Law”). This vote is a significant step towards self-governance and ensuring that our laws reflect our Nation’s values and traditions.
Your participation in this Ratification Vote is crucial. By voting, you have the opportunity to influence how matrimonial real property matters are handled on our lands. The proposed FRCN MRP Law is designed to replace the government of Canada’s federal laws regarding matrimonial real property on reserves. The FRCN MRP Law better respects our culture and customs and better reflects our members’ needs rather than external federal rules. Our law offers several benefits:
