Fisher River Cree Nation signed the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management on June 27, 2014 in which an established process provides Fisher River Cree Nation with the option of assuming control over its lands and resources, the development of a Land Code and entering into and Individual Agreement with Canada.
Since July 2014, the Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) Land Code Developmental Committee started the process of informing the FRCN membership as the first step by providing information and holding several information sessions. Then, a four-step reading/review/acceptance of the FRCN Land Management Code process was carried out that involved valuable FRCN membership participation by reading and revising the Land Code from start to end. FRCN and AANDC have completed the environmental assessment of FRCN Lands as well as the legal descriptions of FRCN Land.
An independent Verification Officer has been appointed as required by the FNLMA to review the FRCN Land Management Code to ensure the Code is drafted according to provisions set out in the FNLMA and, revisions have been finalized accordingly.
The ratification (approval) of the Code and Individual Agreement is now ready to be put through a vote by eligible FRCN voters starting July 2 and continue to July 26, 2018 in FRCN, which will also be overseen by the Verification Officer. Please see the enclosed Notice of Vote for the voting dates, time and locations.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. George Crate, FRCN Land Code Coordinator at (office) 204-645-2171 or (cell) 204-308-0525.
Thank you for your valued participation and remember your vote counts.
