Fisher River Cree Nation had the privilege of hosting a group of Provincial representatives from a variety of branches that represent the Department of Sustainable Development, including Environmental Approvals, Compliance and Enforcement, Climate Change & Air Quality, Energy, Wildlife & Fisheries, Forestry & Peatlands, Water Science and Watershed Management, Parks, Lands and Indigenous Relations, as well as the Manitoba Status of Women Secretariat.
The participants of the Certificate for Indigenous Relations Program are involved in classes and events that take place over the span of a year. The participants learn about Indigenous history, law, consultation, engagement, current issues and reconciliation; this is a learning opportunity based on the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #57.
During their visit they learned about perspectives on law and culture, by speaking to Chief and Council and program leaders, covering topics of respect, natural resource based rights & treaties, community economic development, and traditional knowledge.
This is the third group of departmental employees to go through the program and our second overnight class day in Fisher River Cree Nation. They had an awesome experience and we look forward to hosting them again!
